Create and inspect audiences

Create a segment to show content to a defined group of visitors. For example, a segment can include visitors who viewed a product recently and have not converted.

Choose an existing audience first

Open Segments to inspect behavioral audiences, ad-source audiences, and custom rules. Read the group's definition and available evidence before targeting it. A behavioral label describes observed activity; it does not establish a visitor's identity or purchase intent.

Create a custom segment

  1. In Segments, click New segment.
  2. Give the segment a recognizable name and description. Keep Builder selected to edit rules visually.
  3. Add the conditions that define the audience. Combine conditions with AND when all must match, or OR when any can match. Set each relevant time window.
  4. Read the automatic preview at the bottom. It estimates how many profiles match; individual rule counts help locate an overly narrow condition.
  5. Choose the Refresh behavior, then click Save segment. Open the saved row to review or change its rules.
  6. Select that segment as the audience when creating a content variant or configuring a trigger.

Check the audience

The segment should appear in the custom segment list and in the relevant audience picker. A saved segment with no matching profiles will not create traffic for a variant.

If the preview is empty, check the event name, rule values, time window, and AND/OR grouping. Some conditions are evaluated when content is served and cannot produce a stored-profile preview. Anonymous profiles are included unless the rules require an identifier.

Next: choose the zone where this audience sees content.
